MALAPASCUA ISLAND, CEBU

PICTURES for you!

Dsc03014 MALAPASCUA ISLAND lies in the middle of the Philippines, about eight kilometres north-east of Cebu Island in the green-blue Visayan sea. Far from as crowded as the well-known Boracay.

Malapascua, The name means "Unfortunate Christmas" but time spent on the Philippines' tiny Malapascua Island is anything but an ill-fated holiday. Shimmering aqua-blue waters greet visitors as they land from bancas (outrigger boats) onto the white sands of Bounty Beach, on the island's south side. A few small inns on the beach offer comfortable bungalows and simple meals--rates are about $30 a night for a private bungalow and meals for two. Room service, television and air conditioners are in short supply, but there are ample opportunities for lazy mornings on the beach and postcard-perfect sunsets. Visitors wishing to sample the local culture can stroll around Malapascua and visit its small fishing communities in just a few hours--the island covers less than 4 sq km.Malapascua is located only 8 km off the north coast of Cebu, in the Philippine Visayas. However, it is remote enough to avoid throngs of package-holiday tourists. Visitors must endure a dusty, bumpy three-hour bus ride from Cebu City to Maya, followed by a 45-minute banca trip.

CAMOTES ISLAND, CEBU

PICTURES for you!

Dsc05858 Located between Cebu and Leyte are the Camotes Islands, composed of two principal islands of Pacijan and Poro, and two minor islands Tulang, north of Pacijan and Ponson northeast of Poro. On Pacijan island is Danao, a fresh water lake. Pacijan and Poro are connected by a man-made, asphalted causeway.

Dsc05852 Etiological stories have the Camotes was so named because Spanish who landed in Camotes saw the inhabitants digging for sweet potatoes. Asked the islands name, the natives replied that they were digging for "Camotes," hence, the island's name. Such stories create historical quandaries. The sweet potato like the regular potato are not native to the Philippines, but introduced by Spanish missionaries. How could the inhabitants be digging for sweet potatoes before the first Spaniards arrived on the island. http://www.camotes.com/

Lintik
Brownman Revival

Lintik na pag-ibig
Parang kidlat
Puso kong tahimik na naghihintay
Bigla mong ginulat

Di ko man lang napansin ang iyong pagdating
Daig mo pa ang isang bagyong namuo sa malayo
Ihip ng hangin biglang nag-iba,
Sinundan pa ng kulog at kidlat
Sa biglang buhos ng iyo sa akin
Ako'y napakanta

Lintik na pag-ibig
Parang kidlat
Puso kong tahimik na naghihintay
Bigla mong ginulat

Parang kidlat
Puso kong tahimik na naghihintay
Bigla mong ginulat

Lintik, lintik

CEBU CITY

PICTURES FOR YOU!

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8EbOXDFsxaNuu&notag=1

Dsc02873Often called the "Queen City of the South" and the Seat of Christianity in the Philippines, Cebu is the country's oldest city. Exploring Cebu City, one encounters a rich historic past. Cebuanos are extremely proud of their cultural and historical heritage, a legacy which has endured thru the centuries from the time the great explorer Ferdinand Magellan first planted the cross on Cebu's shore.

Time has been kind to Cebu. From Zubu, the fishing village and busy trading port in 1521 has evolved a highly urbanized metropolitan center which now serves as focal point of growth and development in Southern Philippines. With its five cities; Cebu, Danao, Lapulapu Mandaue and Toledo; and its 48 smaller towns, Cebu. has more than kept pace with the nation's progress. Today ' the island province leads in traditional and non-traditional exports and has the highest economic growth rate anywhere in the country. Likewise, recent indications pointed out that Cebu has become the country's most favorite tourist destination.
